LIIA is timeless design, sustainable choices and handmade luxury

LIIA is timeless jewellery design, sustainable choices and handmade luxury.

Every piece of LIIA Jewellery is designed and made in Finland by goldsmith artisan Laura Ikonen. LIIA Jewellery is mostly made by hand using traditional goldsmithing techniques but also modern technology such as 3D modeling is used.

Who is behind the shop and where the idea came from?
LIIA is a one woman business. The woman behind LIIA is me, goldsmith artisan Laura Ikonen.

LIIA is a dream come true and a result of a long process. I already studied a degree and worked in a totally different field. However for years I longed for doing something more creative and to express myself. I decided to study goldsmith artisans degree and also moved to my new hometown. With jewellery design and jewellery making I found something that I really love to do!

LIIA's guiding ideas are timeless design, high quality materials and handmade high quality work.
How many people work for your company?
Only one woman, who's role is a designer and jewellery maker, salesperson, marketing manager and even a little bit graphic designer and wannabe photographer when needed :)

I also have the world's best buddy at my workshop: a small portugues podengo, dog Sisu. Sometimes Sisu forces me to take a break and play, sometimes he calmes me if I'm too stressed and everyday he takes me out to get some fresh air and take a break.
What have been the highlights for your company?
LIIA is only in the beginning of its journey. But one of the biggest personal achievements for me has been to find the courage to start my own business and do something I really love and believing in it. I'm sure that there will be many great things coming with LIIA.
How do you aim to improve the welfare of the environment and human.
When I'm working with jewellery making I aim to use techniques, materials and chemicals that are as safe as possible for me, my health and the environment.

For my own welfare I try to do things that makes me feel better: go for a swim, running or just a walk in the nature.
Has your company had to give up something to be more sustainable and responsible?
I wouldn't say that I have had to give up something to be more sustainable and responsible. Sometimes it just takes time to seek best possible options, suppliers or materials. Still, I think it is important to strive for better future. Even with baby steps sometimes.
What are your visions for the future?
I hope that LIIA employs at least me also in the future and allows me to work with something in the future.
What is your motto?
Ilon kautta - positiivisella asenteella pääsee pitkälle, ja se usein näkyy ja tarttuu! :)
What inspires you?
Everyday life and people.
Products and product creation
Which product best describes you and why?
Himmeli-necklace is one of the first products in LIIA's collection. I think it's a great example of LIIA's fresh and timeless design.
How do your products add value for your customers compared to basic market products?
LIIA Jewellery is handmade and they are designed and made to last.

When you buy LIIA's jewellery piece you also support a small business, buy a piece of dream come true and make this woman smile!
How do you aim to produce long lasting products? What this requires for example from the product design?
Products are made of high quality materials and when designing jewellery I try to make it last by choosing technical solutions that lasts long.

I also love the idea of multifunctional jewellery. This is another possibility to make a piece of jewellery live longer: to use it in many different ways. A perfect example of this is multifunctional KOIVU necklace which is inspired by beautiful Finnish nature and designed to celebrate 100-year-old Finland.
What is the best feedback you have received from your products?
All of the warming and encouraging feedback I've received from LIIA's first step has been amazing <3
What product do you find superb that was made by someone other than you?
I love Neulomo's Marika tunic! It's perfect for almost any occasion and you can change the look with different accessories. And a perfect match: Marika-tunic & a long necklace <3
What materials you prefer in production?
I use precious metals, mainly silver. If possible I'll choose a supplier who can guarantee that the material is 100 % or as close as possible recycled. With my own production I save all leftover materials and eventually they will be re-used.

Sirpale-earrings in LIIA's collection are made of leftover silver pieces from production of other LIIA Jewellery pieces. This way all of the material will be used in beautiful jewellery as soon as possible.
What makes your products environmentally friendly?
A handmade quality piece of jewellery made of precious metals is almost eternal. When you take care of your jewellery it will last long and it can be repaired if needed.
Are you aware of where the part of your products (materials etc.) are made and by whom and in what circumstances?
Basically the products are made from scratch at LIIA's studio. However I'm also interested in the origin of materials and would like to know them as far as possible, if possible.
How do you pack your products?
Every piece of LIIA Jewellery is packed in a cardboard jewellery box and is posted in a cardboard package.
What alternatives you prefer for the product delivery?
Mainly local post.
