Who can open a shop in Weecos?

Weecos is the global marketplace for sustainable design

Weecos brings together brands and people, all around the world, who share the same values. A strong, distinctive brand whose business is professional, ecological and ethical can open a shop in Weecos. We scan the brand, who apply to Weecos, through our sustainability survey and the brand's website. In addition to sustainability, the visual appearance of the brand and the quality of the products are essential.

The range of the brand's products is not limited, but the main product categories in Weecos are women's and children's fashion, men's fashion, jewellery, interior design products and other home goods such as cosmetics. Currently, food is not sold in Weecos. Although Weecos's product range is vast, all brands are united together in order of quality, design and inspirational lifestyle thinking.

Brands can join Weecos around the world with a few exceptions. Currently, the brands are mainly from Finland and other Nordic countries, the UK, Germany, Estonia, Poland and Belgium.

ALL PRODUCTS IN WEECOS ARE MADE RESPECTING PEOPLE, ANIMALS AND THE PLANET

Each brand in Weecos has passed our sustainability auditing, which is developed together with experts. We are incredibly grateful for all the experts and NGO’s who have shared their knowledge to us considering materials and environmental aspects. The survey is updated yearly, and in the update of the latest version, we have received help from the Finnish Textile and Fashion organization.

The sustainability of the brand and the products are evaluated by the points of views of economic, social and environmental sustainability. After filling in the survey, we contact the brand if there are any further questions or something is unclear to us. All brand do not fulfil our criteria.

We encourage the designers to share information considering the production and materials, for instance, as transparently as possible. However, this does not mean that the brand must or even could know the original field of the raw material used, for example. Finding this information in the enormously long supply chain is almost impossible. Instead, the brand should explain, for example, why a certain material is used in its products. Some brands may have different certificates for their products, or they might use materials that are certified. However, the certificates cost, actually quite a lot, and therefore, its absence does not mean that the product would not be sustainably made.

Weecos’s sustainability is not, however, limited only to products. We want to support carefully made purchases and be involved in influencing society. The small and medium-sized brands in Weecos are able to develop new operating models, such as reducing textile waste by pre-sales. The brands are also able to solve societal challenges, such as the circular and sharing economy. Sharing knowledge of materials and the price structure, for example, promotes transparency and helps customers to consider their own consumption habits. Also, shorting the right instructions for taking care of the product increase significantly the product’s usability and age.

We feel that the design of good-quality is a sustainability promise. A product that is carefully designed and manufactured lasts long in use, and in good design, one can also see the designer's own vision. We value peculiarly products that are one of a kind, and as part of the brand’s evaluation, we look at the product’s uniqueness so that it’s not a copy of another brand.

We follow the brands and their products in Weecos, but at the same time, we rely on the brands as they share the same values with us. In addition, we are grateful for our customers who also help us spot those products that are not suitable for Weecos.
