IDA HANHINIEMI, 28

"Throughout the years, I have lived in many kinds of homes and apartments. Fortunately, I have always succeeded in turning them to look like me. At my home, there are both new and old, custom-made items and less expensive treasures. I think that the critical element in decorating your home in a sustainable way is to do it with care and no rush.

In my opinion, every purchase is a possibility to have an impact on the world as I can choose to whom my money goes and what kind of world I want to support. I try, as much as I can, to shop recycled or sustainably, near-by made items. I love that the items at my home have a story behind them. I also aim to shop both beautiful and functional interior design. My only exception to this rule is my stone and shell collection - but don’t we all have something just beautiful at our homes that we enjoy?

I had the chance to pick my favorites from Weecos’s Home and Natural Cosmetics. Immediately, I fell in love with the bed skirt by Vera-Vera! It is custom-made and 100 % linen. I love that the bed skirt looks simple, there are no logos and it is beautifully sewn. Definitely something I will use forever from now on!

I also want to introduce you the bee wax candles by Kaurilan Sauna. As most of the candles are made from animal fat, these are a great natural option."

If I happened to need a shelf or a cabinet to my home, I would definitely look Lundia’s collection at Weecos. These Finnish shelves we actually had also at my childhood home so they are eternal classics! The most beautiful prints can be found from Saana ja Olli – I have been this brand’s fan for a long time. And a new favourite I found from BLOUN, which is a Finnish glassblowing studio that creates unique and colourful lamps and vases from recycled glass.

I think that decorating your home in a sustainable way is not hard when you know where to look for and don’t decor with a rush."
